Our goal is to grow the best food to nourish you and yours. In addition to suppling local grocers, in 2015 we started to spread our love and began to participating in local farmers market. You can come meet some of the folks who grow your food and bring home some fresh, Marin grown goodies. The best part of these markets is that we share all our small, specialty crops with you!
Find us at Point Reyes on Saturdays during the regular market season.
When Caymin started this farm 6 years ago, one of her main focuses was to respect the land. By practicing a method of farming that actually grows things for the land to 'eat'. We use rotating cover crops to add back nutrients and hold soil moisture. Fava beans, vetch, and buckwheat are some of our favorites.
We rotate our crops every year, use quality compost and the richest fertilizers. Respecting the land that gives so much to us is the most important thing we can do as farmers.
In our cool coastal climate, with its misty mornings and breezy afternoons-all sorts of green leaf goodness thrives at Big Mesa Farm. We grow multiple varieties of kales, which we supply to multiple local markets and restaurants.
Lettuces for everyone! In 2016, we are hoping to master the succession planting and rotation of our lettuce crops. There is a variety of heads we grow, but we usually have Little Gem, Red Leaf and Romaine available during the growing season. Hand sown seeds, lovingly cared for babes, and then quickly transplanted little plants-within weeks they will be on your plate! Enjoy!
Running Big Mesa Farm, like raising a child, takes a village. Caymin is the lady with the plan and makes everything happen, but without the crew-it couldn't be done. While this is usually a small village of 2-4 people at the farm most of the year, we have so much love and support from family and friends-and we THANK YOU! If you come out to visit, don't be surprised if we put you to work. But not to worry, we pay in hugs, food and flowers! And remember, never leave the field empty handed..
There may not be a prettier green out there. With its stripes of reds, oranges, yellow and white the stalk of a piece of chard is like a work of art. A feast for the eyes as well as the belly! We harvest cases upon cases of this prolific green all year long. Stop by and pick up some today!
